Embracing Fall Creativity with "Tales of a Homebody”
Fall is one of my favorite seasons—not just for the crisp weather or the joy of bringing out my favorite boots, but because it sparks my creative energy. It's the time of year when I dive deep into the planning and production of my annual calendar, and this year, I’m more excited than ever.
For 2025, my calendar is titled "Tales of a Homebody," and it's all about home. The aesthetic is rooted in *hygge*—that cozy, comforting vibe that makes you want to curl up with a blanket and candles. Picture lots of warm, earthy tones, wood, leather, and soft, inviting textiles. I want this calendar to feel moody and intimate, with natural, soft lighting that gives each image a quiet, voyeuristic feel. Think of it as if you’re peeking in on a simple, unguarded moment in a cozy space.
This year, I’m doing something a bit different from my previous calendars. Instead of putting the doll front and center in every shot, I want the focus to be on the space itself—the atmosphere, the warmth, the sense of calm. The subjects will be placed more in the middle or background of the frame, allowing the environment to take center stage.
To achieve this look, I’m building two-room dioramas, which will help me get the depth I’m aiming for in my photos. It's a new challenge because, in the past, I could whip up 4-5 small dioramas in a week. But this time, I’m slowing down. I’ll be making just 2 or 3 a week to really hone in on the details and feelings of each space.
Creating "Tales of a Homebody" is more than just crafting a calendar—it's about capturing the essence of home in a way that feels personal and heartfelt. I hope the warmth and comfort come through in every image. Stay tuned for sneak peeks as this project unfolds!
